Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, soundly thrashed in his bid last week to get a strong-mayor proposal on the November ballot, said Tuesday that he still has time to persuade the City Council to bring the measure before voters in the fall.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson says he is one City Council vote short of getting his retooled strong mayor initiative on the November ballot - but is confident he’ll get that vote. In a sitdown with The Bee’s editorial board on Monday, the mayor said his revamped proposal “has been received very well.” But, he said, “as I sit here today, I do not have the votes on council” to place the measure on the ballot.

In 1910, voters in San Francisco approved a $45 million bond issue for the construction of a water system on the Tuolumne River. In 2010, city residents could vote on a proposal to tear out a key part of the system ”” Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park. Restore Hetch Hetchy, the group leading the effort, aims to get the measure on the November ballot.

Supporters of a plan to move the Del Puerto Health Center to a larger building at the Keystone Pacific Business Park filed a notice Monday to put the issue on the ballot. The City of Patterson Healthcare Expansion Act would amend the city’s zoning ordinance and a development agreement to allow the 11,000-square-foot health center at the business park in west Patterson. Spearheading the initiative is a group called Patterson Citizens for Expanded 21st Century Healthcare.
