A group called Arkansans for Compassionate Care has won approval for the title of a ballot initiative to legalize medical marijuana. Attorney General Dustin McDaniel approved the “Arkansas Medical Marijuana Act” as an appropriate title on the November 2012 ballot.

The debate over smoking indoors heats back up with a new initiative petition circulating that could lead to a ballot initiative. Back in June, Springfield Mayor Jim O’Neal killed a proposed no-smoking ordinance at a city council meeting, telling advocacy groups to get signatures to put this on a ballot. And that’s just what the American Cancer Society has been doing leading up to the Wednesday, December 29 deadline.

A Cole County judge has dismissed a lawsuit that sought to stop an Aug. 3 ballot issue vote offering Missourians a chance to express their position on the nation’s new health care act. Judge Paul C. Wilson ruled late Friday against Jefferson City attorney Chip Gentry’s argument that the ballot issue exceeds its original purpose and does not contain a clear title focused on a single subject.

Another initiative petition has been approved to be passed around in Missouri, as supporters seek to get their issue on the ballot. This one deals with early voting in Missouri. Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced Monday the petitions meet state standards to be circulated.  The issue seeks to make it easier for people to vote before the official election day.
