Citizens in Charge

Citizens in Charge Foundation … is building what, in my experience, appears to be the first truly national organizing network around initiative and referendum … Whatever you think of Jacob’s politics,  this is a smart move…

It’s true. I would have said it, but Joe Mathews, a senior fellow at the New America Foundation and commentator at The Blockbuster Democracy Blog, beat me to the punch.

Of course, you don’t have to agree with my politics to support initiative and referendum. As anyone who reads Common Sense knows, abuses of political power are everywhere. Citizens must have a way to check that power; initiative and referendum is it.

All across the political spectrum, Americans support this process. And with good reason. They understand that it shifts the balance of power back to the people.

We can all agree that organizing to protect and expand initiative rights is, indeed, “a smart move.”
