Today, Citizens in Charge Foundation, presented Auburn, New York citizen David Schlegel with the September 2009 John Lilburne Award.  Mr. Schlegel is being recognized for standing up for the rights of citizens and actively pressuring his state representatives to enact a statewide process of initiative and referendum.NY Flag

Today, Citizens in Charge Foundation, a transpartisan national voter rights group focused on the ballot initiative and referendum process, presented Nevada State Senator Terry Care with the June 2009 John Lilburne Award. Senator Care is being recognized for standing up for the rights of Nevada voters and trying to stop legislation that would shut Nevadans out of the ballot initiative process.

Yesterday, Senator Care cast the only vote against Senate Bill 212 aimed at stifling the ballot initiative process.

Brad Ashwell Legislative Advocate for the Florida Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), has been named as the May 2009 recipient of the John Lilburne Award. He is being honored for his work in defeating anti-initiative legislation and defending the rights of Florida voters.

Citizens in Charge Foundation has named Linda Curtis, Executive Director of Independent Texans, as the April 2009 recipient of the John Lilburne Award for her commitment to expanding and protecting the rights of Texas citizens to petition their government and voice their opinions.

The Virginia-based group Citizens in Charge has given an award this month to Oklahoma Senator Randy Brogdon (R-Owasso) and Representative Randy Terrill (R-Moore) for two bills and a resolution aimed at making Oklahoma’s initiative petition laws less onerous.
