The Ohio Legislature passed sweeping election law reforms in 2011. Advocacy groups cried foul and collected enough signatures to put the issue on the November 2012 ballot.

The reforms in question include:

» Narrowing the early voting window.

» Prohibiting counties from automatically sending out absentee ballots.

» Creating a standard form for provisional ballots which, if filled out incorrectly, could disqualify the ballot.

A petition drive last summer aimed at the development of a municipal pool was cut short, after the site of the proposed pool was sold to a local businessman. But just as the rezoning of the former Muskingum Family Y property from residential to commercial has resurfaced before City Council, so too has the initiative petition.

A city traffic committee heard presentations Thursday afternoon from two firms which offer red-light camera technology, even as about a dozen protesters could be heard outside City Hall. Representatives from Phoenix-based Redflex Traffic Systems and Gatso USA of Massachusetts gave 30-minute PowerPoint presentations, and 15 minutes of question-and-answer came afterward.
