Utah Press Conference Recap

Tue, Mar 30 2010 by Staff

Yesterday, Citizens in Charge President Paul Jacob spoke at a joint press conference in Salt Lake City, Utah with Utahns for Ethical Government calling on Utah Governor Gary Herbert to veto a bill on his desk that will restrict citizen rights in the state. From the Salt Lake Tribune:

“The citizens of Utah have a fundamental, constitutional right to propose reforms to government,” said Paul Jacobs (sic), president of the Virginia-based Citizens in Charge, “and to have their reforms voted on, up or down, by the people.” But Utah’s top officials - the governor and legislators - are instead undercutting that fundamental right, Jacobs said.

“That’s not conservative, that’s not liberal,” Jacobs (sic) said of the recent legislation.”That is arbitrary, unfair, bad government.” HB112 - legislation to remove any deadlines for court decisions related to initiatives and referendums - still awaits Herbert’s signature.
