Citizens in Maine have united in protest against two unconstitutional bills currently moving through the Maine legislature that would severely limit their first amendment rights. Several grassroots activists and community organizers are calling on the legislature to act on LD 28 and LD 530 and protect Maine citizens

TEXT OF LETTER.

Maine Heritage Policy Center CEO, Tarren Bragdon and Mary Adams, Chair of the 2006 Taxpayer Bill of Rights Referendum, are among the state leaders who have sent a coalition letter to the Maine legislature asking them to vote “no” on LD 28 and amend LD 530, and support Maine’s First Amendment rights.

The letter states:

Surely, it is not the goal of the legislature to reduce the amount of speech and debate available to the people of Maine. We ask you to now act accordingly. The unconstitutional ban on payment of circulators should be removed from LD 530. LD 28 has been recommended by committee as “ought not to pass,” and we hope that you will take the committee’s recommendation.
