POLL: Should Gov. Sarah Palin be allowed to give her opinion?

Mon, May 11 2009 by Staff

Recently Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has been in the news again, this time for taking a position on ballot initiatives in her state.

According to Politico:

“The Alaska Public Offices Commission found Friday night that she did not violate state election laws by announcing her position on a controversial ballot measure requiring tougher environmental standards for new mines.”

We want to hear from you: “Do you think public officials should be able to weigh in on ballot initiatives?”

At Blockbuster Democracy they point out that Governor Palin’s support for a ballot initiative is not a novel idea. “Governors all over the country —- both Democrats (Ritter of Colorado and Napolitano of Arizona most recently) and Republicans (Schwarzenegger) — have led such campaigns, even drafting and sponsoring initiatives themselves.”
