Citizens in Charge Foundation Announces 2011 Spring Internship Opportunities!

Fri, Nov 19 2010 by Amanda Kathryn Roman

Our partner organization Citizens In Charge Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is currently accepting applications for 2011 internships. We are looking for undergraduates, grad students and recent grads from all majors as well as law students.

Citizens in Charge Foundation (CICF) works to protect and expand the processes of initiative, referendum and recall in the 26 states where citizens currently have those rights, as well as bring those rights to the 24 states where citizens are denied them. The Foundation is non-partisan and does not support or oppose any particular initiatives, referendums or recall efforts unless they deal with the accessibility of the process to average citizens in which case we advocate for accessibility.

The Foundation is seeking to fill 1 intern position in our headquarters located in Woodbridge, Virginia – approximately 25 miles south of Washington, DC. We are also seeking to fill up to 3 virtual intern positions; these interns may be located anywhere in the United States and will work remotely via the internet and phone.

Interns will work between 1—30 hours per week. Hours and program length are flexible and we will work to accommodate student’s academic and personal schedule.

Interns will follow legislation related to the ballot initiative and referendum (I&R) process in state legislatures and local governments throughout the country. Internships will also include a variety of research and writing projects and will provide valuable experience working in a fast-paced environment with real time public policy. Applicants should have excellent verbal and written communications skills, pay special attention to detail and organization, and possess the ability to use Microsoft Office products and the internet proficiently.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Tracking legislation and litigation concerning initiative, referendum and recall nationwide
  • Tracking initiatives and recall efforts throughout the country
  • Utilizing new media to inform citizens about initiative, referendum and recall
  • Researching campaign finance data and laws
  • Occasionally traveling into the field to capture events on video
  • General clerical and/or office duties

Please send a resume and cover letter explaining your interest in working for Citizens in Charge Foundation and describing any relevant experience to Executive Director Amanda Kathryn Roman at Amanda@CitizensInCharge.org.
